This soccer training activity is designed for U8–U10 players and focuses on attacking during in possession. Coaches can duplicate and adapt this activity to fit their own session plans.
Develop basic passing and attacking decisions in U8 players through a 2v1 overload soccer drill focused on timing and support play.
15x20 yard area with one mini-goal at one end, and a 5 yard endzone at the other. Two attackers start in the endzone by receiving a ball from the coach. The defender starts halfway up the field. Attackers attempt to score on the mini-goal. The defender, if they win possession, score by dribbling into the endzone. Rotate defender after each rep.
15 minutes
1. Normal goal = 1 point. 2. One shot per repetition. 3. If defender wins the ball, repetition ends. 4. Quick reset after each rep.
Young players often struggle with spacing and support angles. Emphasize movement after passing and quick decision-making. Use this drill once players understand basic 1v1 attacking before moving into larger small-sided games.
