This soccer training activity is designed for U8–U10 players and focuses on attacking during in possession. Coaches can duplicate and adapt this activity to fit their own session plans.
Develop passing technique and movement skills in U8 players through a structured warm-up soccer drill emphasizing agility and clean ball contact.
Set up a 28x15 yard area split into two equal zones with a central channel between them. Split players evenly between both zones and place two balls in each area. Players must pass to a teammate in their zone before moving through the central channel into the opposite area. They may move through the channel using different movement patterns (hop, skip, jump, zig-zag, etc.). Focus on quick transitions, sharp footwork, and controlled touches before passing.
20 minutes
1: Add zig-zag movement patterns through the channel. 2: Players must take three touches before passing, with each touch changing direction. 3: Players must perform a turn or beat-the-player move before they are allowed to pass.
Warm-ups at this age should reinforce fundamentals rather than static stretching. Focus on body shape when passing and quick directional changes through the channel. Use this before progressing into decision-making or competitive activities.
